#159 How to stop procrastinating and start inspiring with Georgina Vestey

In 1976 the film Rocky was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and won three, including best picture, making its writer and lead role, Sylvester Stallone, a star.

It also went on to become the highest-grossing movie of the year.

Now there's a reason why Rocky stole the show...we LOVE a good story!

Especially a story involving an underdog who against all odds finds a way to win the day.

Who despite all their fears, doubts and everyone second guessing them, manages to push through adversity, overcome challenges and come out swinging, punching way above their weight.

Georgie, just like Rocky, was an underdog.

As a one woman-band independent podcaster, Georgie Vestey had little to no chance to get nominated let alone win the most prestigious podcasting award in the country.

And yet, Georgie's podcast "Dead Honest" ended up being nominated for "Best Interview Podcast" at the British Podcast Awards 2021 and was up against other media juggernauts including Channel 4 and The Guardian, all fighting for gold.

Well, just like Rocky, Georgie shocked the world and came out with her hand raised.

What's crazy is that Georgie almost never launched her podcast...

How do I know? Well, it turns out that Georgie took my "Launch a Binge-Worthy Podcast" Masterclass not once, but TWICE!

As you'll hear in today's powerful conversation, when Georgie's housemate had enough hearing her procrastinate about launching her podcast and hitting publish, she responded like only caring friends can...

"Oh for f**k sake, just press send!"

In part thanks to that zen-like advice given by her housemate, today Georgie is the producer and host of Dead Honest, a truly life-changing podcast that recently won "Best Interview Podcast" at the British Podcast Awards, the Super Bowl of podcasts award in the UK.

She also literally JUST won 'Best Interview Podcast' at the Lovie Awards, an award honouring the Best of the European Internet, which is a pretty big deal.

Naturally, as someone who is obsessed with distilling the courage it takes to put yourself out there and share your story, I wanted to jump on a call with Georgie to ask her all the juicy questions that nobody gets to ask about the ups and down of the journey of raising your profile, and the lessons learned from both.

As you'll hear in this special episode, when I asked Georgie how it felt to win the prestigious award, turns out Georgie was in Athens airport having a Covid-19 swab stuffed up her nose, when her phone starting pinging...

"It couldn't have been a more un-award-like ceremony environment to that! But I am generally thrilled. Because we are the indies...we don't get the PR we don't have the marketing machines. So it's great when one of us gets to this place, because we get there for everybody else as well. That award was for all the other indies out there struggling on a Tuesday afternoon wanting to throw their computers out the window...We did it!" -Georgie Vestey, host of Dead Honest

No matter what your goals are, I hope that you get inspired by my conversation with Georgie to get started on your journey to impact.

There's no better time than now to get started.

Be true, be brave, be kind and let it rip.
